BASF declares force majeure on selected Vitamin A, E and carotenoids products

As a result of a fire that occurred in a BASF plant in Ludwigshafen on 29 July 2024, BASF declared force majeure on deliveries of selected vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid products as well as selected aroma ingredients, with immediate effect and until further notice. The selected aroma ingredients are Ionones, Pyranol, DL-Menthol, Rose Oxides, Ethyllinalool, Nerolidol, and Isophytol R.
The incident has caused damage to the plant and led to a shut-down and a supply disruption of the abovementioned products. The cleaning, inspection and repair work of the plant has started. At this point in time, BASF expects the restart of the plant to take an extended period of time. BASF is currently not able to specify how long this situation will last, and what the total financial impact will be.
The group informed customers that account managers will inform buyers about the allocated volumes by Friday, 16 August, 2024.
